ALL ABOARD the YHA Workplace Wellness express!
This train is bound for glory… choo choo!
Can you feel it? The slow pull forward, the slight acceleration from a full stop. This is where we set off, the corporate wellness movement is officially here, and we are the conductors, engineers, break-men and passengers all in one.
What a buzz! To be a part of such a movement. One that’s world changing, life affirming, and inherently good. Making the world a better place, one zoom call at a time.
Corporate wellness is not a bandwagon, it’s not a phase, and it sure as heck is not a gimmick. I think corporate wellness is here to stay.
Why?
Because people are waking up, recognising that there’s more to life than a 9-5. Folks are starting to understand their actual value, know their worth, and impress on their fundamental human rights. As they absolutely should.
People are seeing that they are the life blood of the corporate machine, the heart beat. And what thanks do they get? Mostly, a meagrely pay check that just covers bills and expenses, but doesn’t exactly buy them their dreams.
Obviously a higher wage is always appreciated, but the problem with JUST paycheques, is that there’s always somewhere they need to be spent. Debts, rent, kids, expenses of all kinds. How often do people actually set a bit aside for themselves? Debatably, not often enough.
This is where we come in. A workplace benefit, in my opinion, should ACTUALLY improve the quality of life at work. Whether that’s healthy snacks, a resting room, on-site chair massage, morning yoga, enticing field trips, motivational speakers, retirement coaches… the list really does go on and on.
What I am saying is that there is no limit to potential benefits, the limitation stands on the corporate end. Corporates are starting to finally recognise and value their workers… but they don’t exactly know how to show their gratitude.
What I would recommend is a survey. Find out key areas of interest, pain points and concerns. Leave room for feedback and comments, and it’s probably best if left anonymous. THEN, with the feedback, create an appropriate plan.
My next suggestion: get in touch with companies like Your Holistic Academy and Office Kneads. These one-stop shop companies are good for all things corporate wellness related! Corporate wellness may be a tall order, but it’s certainly one they can fill.
Remember, money is not the most valuable resource, time is. Your people spend so much of their time on your clock… so how will you reward them?
